Throughout the year, we will use different coffee to highlight and to raise money for causes in origin countries. Some of the proceeds from the sale of this coffee, then, go directly to the cause. For example our Beyond the Surface blend raised awareness and funds for the non-profit surf school.
Currently, we are doing a cause coffee on our Pour-over bar to raise money for Table for Two so every time you order a cup of Kenya Makwa, a portion of that money goes directly to the cause.
Finally, we also support the following organizations that work to positively impact coffee growing regions, Coffee Kids, Roya Relief Project and Nica HOPE
TABLE FOR TWO
In our world of 7 billion, 1 billion suffer from malnutrition, while another 1 billion suffer from overnutrition. TABLE FOR TWO rights this imbalance.
This Japanese-based organization tackles the opposing issues of obesity and hunger through a unique “calorie transfer” model. When you buy the TFT pour over coffee from Kenya, $0.25 from your purchase will be donated to provide one child in East Africa a healthy school lunch. We call this special program “COFFEE FOR TWO”.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in our Table for Two program. Through the program we made 561 pour overs of our beloved Kenya Makwa, and raised enough money to provide 561 children in East Africa a school meal. Remember, BRCR is matching that donation and donating an additional 561 meals. So in total, that’s 1,122 meals provided to some very deserving students far away.
Thank you again, and stay tuned for next year’s Table for Two program featuring an African coffee that Chuck will soon source on his upcoming trip to Ethiopia and Kenya. “
Grounds for Health
Cervical cancer remains the #1 cause of cancer death for women in low-resource settings despite being nearly 100% preventable.
There are many organizations that work to improve social conditions in developing countries. While we contribute to many causes/organization through out the year, we are proud to be long-time supporters of Grounds for Health. Founded in 1996, Grounds for Health has worked to eradicate cervical cancer in coffee growing countries.
Beyond the Surface
Beyond the Surface International is an online platform, common meeting place, and networking tool for youth-focused surfing and ocean-adventure clubs, programs, and organizations.
As a California-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity, Beyond the Surface International partners with local nonprofit organizations in coastal communities worldwide that use surfing, other water sports, and ocean adventure as tools for education, conflict resolution, health, and community development to raise funds and awareness. Furthermore, we collaborate with program directors, community leaders, and local youths to develop and then implement specific projects and initiatives that further each local NGO’s mission and the community’s vision.
We believe that the innate ability for humans to create playful fun can be utilized as a highly effective method in addressing social issues and facilitating positive change. Beyond the Surface International also directs the financial funding, material donations, and overall marketing campaigns for our specific community-based projects. Beyond the Surface International advocates for local people and entire coastal communities across the world to benefit from surfers traveling to the remotest of places in search of waves through sustainable tourism principles, methods, and practices.
