2025 Year in Review: Coffee With Heart

At Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, coffee is never just coffee. It is a connector—between neighbors, farmers, baristas, and the everyday rituals that bring us together. In 2025, those connections sparked real impact. From wildfire relief efforts to heritage month celebrations and long-standing relationships with producers, this year was filled with meaningful momentum, made possible by our community.

We kicked off the year with Love Letters Blend, released early in response to devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Through this campaign:

One moment that will stay with us: a call from Encino Fire Station expressing how much the postcards meant to their team.

In February, we partnered with the Blue Heart Foundation, which uplifts African American male youth through mentorship, education, and leadership development.

  • $1 from every Kenya Kagumoini AA pour over was donated in support of their mission

Women’s History Month offered the chance to highlight the many women who shape our company and our coffees:

  • Over 85 women and women-identifying team members across all parts of the company

  • Two featured offerings:

    • Loma La Gloria Unicorn Pacamara Natural (El Salvador)

    • Sholi Natural (Rwanda), grown by a women-led cooperative

  • $1 per bag donated to The Letter Project, which sends handwritten encouragement to girls and women going through hard seasons

Sholi Cooperative’s work also supports a local health center, just one example of how these coffees fuel broader community efforts.

Earth Blend and Surfrider Foundation

In honor of Earth Month, we released Earth Blend again, with $1 per bag donated to San Diego Surfrider Foundation to help protect our beaches and coastlines. Throughout the year, we also donated coffee to fuel volunteers at Surfrider beach cleanups.

17 Years with Juan Diego of Finca El Socorro

We celebrated 17 years of sourcing from Juan Diego de la Cerda, whose innovative, sustainability-focused practices continue to raise the bar. From water-recycling wet mills to forest preservation, this partnership is rooted in trust, transparency, and a commitment to quality.

AANHPI Heritage Month – Kinship Blend

For Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we released Kinship Blend and donated $1 per bag to the San Diego Foundation's AANHPI Fund in support of equity and community-building.

Big League Brew with Connor Joe

In collaboration with Connor Joe, San Diego native, pro baseball player, and cancer survivor, we launched Big League Brew. With $1 per bag donated to Livestrong, this blend helped support individuals and families affected by cancer.

10 Years with Suyusama (Colombia)

We marked a decade of collaboration with Suyusama, a program supporting smallholder coffee producers in southern Colombia. Their reach today includes:

  • 74 rural organizations

  • Over 1,360 families

  • Across 14 towns in Nariño

This partnership continues to demonstrate what long-term, relationship-driven sourcing can achieve.

Waves of Change Blend – Paddle for Peace

We introduced Waves of Change again in June, with $1 per bag supporting Paddle for Peace and their efforts to make coastal spaces more inclusive, accessible, and community-centered.

In July (SD Pride Month), we proudly brought back Be You Brew, a special Cause Coffee created to honor and support the local LGBTQ+ community. With every bag sold $1 per bag was donated to The San Diego LGBT Community Center, helping fund vital programs and resources that foster inclusion, affirmation, and wellbeing for LGBTQ+ individuals and families.

Our August Cause Coffee supported the KAT6 Foundation, which funds research and family support for those impacted by KAT6A and KAT6B syndromes. This campaign held deep personal meaning, with a connection to a Bird Rock team member's family.

  • $1 per bag of KAT6 Blend supported the foundation
  • The campaign helped raise awareness and momentum for the KATwalk event in September at America’s Cup Harbor

In September, we launched a special Cause Coffee in celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, partnering with Friends of Los Niños (FOLN)—an organization supporting children and families in Baja California through education, housing, and long-term community development.

  • $1 per bag of our Latinx Heritage Month offering was donated directly to FOLN

  • Funds supported their ongoing work providing care and opportunity for children and youth in need

This partnership honored heritage through action—connecting every bag sold to brighter futures across the border.

In 2025, we supported a variety of organizations through in-kind coffee donations—fueling programs that create real impact in our community. To name a few:

This included school-based coffee carts at Sierra School of San Diego and La Jolla High, where students with Autism gain hands-on experience building communication, social, and vocational skills. We also donated to organizations like Curebound, which is accelerating cancer research through community-driven initiatives.

From education to the environment and everything in between, we’re proud to share coffee in ways that support growth, learning, and hope—one cup at a time.

In 2025, we traveled to Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama to visit the producers and farms behind our coffees. These origin visits are foundational to our work. They build trust, deepen relationships, and allow us to see firsthand the impact of long-term sourcing commitments.

Coffee is people. It is care, craft, and community. Visiting origin reminds us why we do this work and brings back stories that add meaning to every cup.

Beyond the coffees we sourced and roasted, we kept the bar fresh with 12 limited-time seasonal drinks. Each one was crafted to highlight the flavors of the season. From bright summer sips to warm holiday favorites.

Here are the seasonal drinks we featured in 2025:

  1. Nuts About You
  2. Mon’ Cherry Sparkling Tea
  3. Watermelon Passion Tea
  4. Watermelon Matcha
  5. Sparkling Watermelon Fresca
  6. Horchata (Classic)
  7. Horchata (Dirty)
  8. Spiced Pumpkin Latte
  9. Berry Cobbler Latte
  10. Sparkling Apple Chai-der
  11. Peppermint Mocha/ Latte
  12. Stroopwafel Latte

In 2025, we featured 75 unique coffees across our lineup, each one representing careful sourcing, roasting development, and a whole lot of coordination from origin to our cafes and your kitchen.

  • 49 Single Origin coffees
  • 10 Blue Label offerings
  • 16 Signature and Seasonal Blends

One of our favorite ways to connect with the Bird Rock community is through monthly public cuppings. Where you get the opportunity to join our expert team for a cupping class to learn about the cupping process, explore multiple coffees and their flavor profiles, and learn about coffee’s origin stories and processing techniques. It’s the perfect experience for home baristas, coffee nerds, and curious-minded folks!

We believe coffee should be experienced, not just consumed, and we’d love for you to join us.

If there was one theme this year, it was this: community creates impact. Every bag purchased, every pour over enjoyed, and every shared story helped us support nonprofits, highlight the people behind the coffee, and invest in a better future locally and globally.

Thank you for showing up, again and again. We are grateful to serve you and excited for everything still to come.

XOXO,

BRCR
