We stand in support with the black community, in affirming that black lives matter. Change must happen, and we will continue to be a part of the change.

Racism, racial injustice and discrimination have absolutely no place in our society or our company. Black lives matter and the fact that this continues to exist is disheartening, saddening and frustrating. Recent events have brought the much-needed conversation to the forefront, and we hope this provides an opportunity to drive real action and change. There is a lot of work to be done, but we stand together in this effort with the black community. This company is committed to equality, justice and treating each other with dignity and respect.

• We are committed to continuing to cultivate an inclusive and diverse work environment.

• We will be providing additional training for our management team, team leaders and staff members on diversity, equality, and inclusion.

• We will be donating 100% of all cafe proceeds from this Saturday (6/13) & Sunday (6/14) to the Blue Heart Foundation of San Diego. BHF is an organization that focuses on the underserved youth ages 13-19 in the Greater San Diego County area.

• In addition, we will be donating a portion of the proceeds from our new Empowerment Blend each February for Black History Month to a different charitable cause.

2023 Update:

• We are starting our DEI training in May 2023 
  • To kick off our company DEI training we partnered with SDEAHR and Taryell Simmons to provide Training, Data and Coaching to our team and includes DEIB as it applies to HR management, Workforce Development, and commitments to long-term strategic planning.
  • This includes a Listening Session open to our whole staff, multiple workshops covering the tops of Creating a Culture of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Recognizing Unconscious Bias in the Workplace; Promoting an Inclusive Workplace; and a cultural Competency Overview.
  • Taryell and his team is also are offering small group coaching and advising sessions for our operations and cafe managers.
  • Data is collected through anonymous surveys to gather a baseline on how bias impacts our company and our employees.
• We continue to work and sponsor the Blue Heart Foundation of San Diego. BHF is an organization that focuses on underserved youth ages 13-19 in the Greater San Diego County area. Each year we participate in different ways to sponsor this organization, whether it’s being a sponsor for the year by donating cash or creating promotions at the cafe level with proceeds donated to BHF.
• In 2023, we also became a proud sponsor of Paddle for Peace, a local non-profit that advocates for inequalities in beach access and recreation by removing barriers and providing resources. We are a 2023 sponsor and will be participating/ helping to promote their events throughout the year!
