Eater: Bird Rock Expanding to Carmel Valley and Points North
By
Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is opening a new cafe in Carmel Valley later this month, which joins existing locations in Little Italy, La Jolla, and Bay Park; it’s a first step in a West Coast expansion plan that Bird Rock’s Jeff Taylor says will see the company heading north while keeping its focus on coastal regions. Last year, the local roaster linked up with a larger coffee company with the intent of growing its presence in the specialty coffee market.
Due to debut on Saturday, April 21, the 1,000-square-foot cafe will include a 1,000-square-foot patio with views of Torrey Pines Reserve and the lagoon. The renovated space will include design elements that will revolve around education, from a screen showing coffee-related videos to a custom mural created by a local barista. Beyond its core menu of coffee and espresso drinks, the Carmel Valley outpost will feature seasonal beverages and more food offerings including a toast option. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with possible extension of operating hours in the future.
