Description

Don Angel is one of six farms operated by Vides 58, a coffee company spanning three generations with a commitment to quality coffee cultivation. In 1958, Jorge Vides, the patriarch of the family, founded Finca La Bolsa; a coffee plantation located in La Libertad, Huehuetenango.

Jorge’s passion was for health, practicing as a full-time traveling doctor and making a significant impact on the region. His passion for health led him to become Director of the National Hospital of Huehuetenango, which to this day, bears his name.

After his passing in 1995, Jorge's daughter María Elena Viades and her son Renardo “Nayo” Ovalle Vides continue his legacy and created four community programs: The La Bolsa school, the La Bolsa day-care center, the Vides 58 Coffee School grant, and the Qawale (“partner” in Mayan) program initiative.

Don Angel was purchased by Renardo Ovalle Vides in 2017, with the intention of growing different varieties. Large parts of the farm are protected areas of wild forest, much of which is used to prevent soil erosion and reduce the plants exposure to winds. This is based on a permaculture model, with the intention of sustainability and respect for the environment, to try and recreate coffee’s natural habitat in high altitude forests.
